Summary

For Fiscal Year 2011, the Smithsonian's 6,637 volunteers gave 616,047 hours of service to the Institution. Volunteers helped the Smithsonian by conducting research, working behind-the-scenes with our staff and collections, serving as docents, staffing public programs, working as citizen scientists and assisting with seasonal programs such as the Folklife Festival and Summer Camp.
