Summary

Letter from Joseph Henry, first Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, to Samuel Foster Haven, librarian of the American Antiquarian Society in Worcester, Massachusetts, October 19, 1847. In the letter, Henry asks Haven's opinion of the quality of the work of Ephraim George Squier and Edwin Hamilton Davis, both archaeologists. Henry also writes about his desire for the Smithsonian to collaborate with other Institutions, and asks for Haven to review the plans for the Institution and provide feedback according to his knowledge of the workings of the Antiquarian Society.
