Summary

Letter from Joseph Henry, first Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, to Alexander Winchell, professor and geologist, November 1, 1856. Winchell had sent the meteorological reports that he had prepared for the Smithsonian Institution's meteorological project to Unites States Commissioner of Patents, because Winchell did not believe the Smithsonian was preserving and using them properly. In the letter, Henry expresses regret at that and assures Winchell that his reports are appreciated and put to good use.
