Summary

Letter from Joseph Henry, first Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, to Ephraim George Squier and Edwin Hamilton Davis, archaeologists, February 16, 1848. In the letter, Henry informs Squier and Davis that he has made arrangements for the publication of their memoir, "Ancient Monuments of the Mississippi Valley," about prehistoric mound builders of North America. The memoir was included in the first Smithsonian "Contributions to Knowledge" publication, which was printed in 1848.
