Letter from Joseph Henry, first Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, to James Hall, a geologist and paleontologist, January 2, 1863. In the letter, Henry thanks Hall for sending a letter of condolence following the death of Henry's son and eldest child, William Henry, on October 17, 1862.
