Letter from Simon Cameron, Secretary of War, to Henry Knox Craig, Chief Ordnance Officer, April 20, 1861. In the letter, Cameron orders Craig to issue twelve muskets and 240 rounds of ammunition to Joseph Henry, first Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, "for the protection of the Institution against lawless attacks" at the start of the Civil War.
