Oscar Dean Kidd and Pamela Henson in Frijoles, Panama. Pamela Henson interviewed Oscar Dean Kidd in 1990 about his work at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI). Kidd was born in Jamaica in 1907 and migrated to Panama in 1909, eventually settling near the Barro Colorado Island (BCI) Research Station of STRI. As a motorboat operator, Kidd became acquainted with scientists visiting BCI.
