From the Smithsonian Institution's Annual Report from 1874, on page 65 is a list of articles (paintings, engravings, and other art works) deposited by the Smithsonian Institution in the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Secretary Joseph Henry was transferring the art collection to the Library of Congress and the Corcoran. The art collection transferred to Corcoran was later returned to the Smithsonian at the request of the Board of Regents (1896).
