Head veterinarian of the National Zoological Park Mitchell Bush looks at the internal organs of this bull snake with the aid of a laparoscope. Laparascopy, a common diagnostic procedure in zoos, allows veterinarians to determine the sex of some animals, to remove foreign bodies or tissue for biopsy, and to repair damaged tissues or organs.
