George Gustav Heye, founder of the Heye Foundation's Museum of the American Indian, in New York City, starts his collection with the purchase of a buckskin shirt while in Arizona as a mining engineer. Here, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, he stands outside holding a dish, with Mrs. R.C. Draney and E. S. Robinson to his left holding a canoe prow. The artifacts are Bella Coola, a North American Indian group who live on and near a reserve at Bella Coola, British Columbia.
