Summary

Exhibited in Arts and Industries Building is a diorama of people showing men dressed in loin cloths working; some are seated on benches. A wagon looking like a Conestoga wagon can also be seen. The image was taken by Ruel P. Tolman, an artist, curator and later Director of Smithsonian National Collection of Fine Arts, now the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and is included in a scrapbook of photographs of Smithsonian staff, grounds and buildings, exhibitions, and Washington, D.C., scenes.
