Summary

The Walcott family pictured on Christmas morning, 1907: (L-R) Helena Stevens Walcott (d. 1911); Helen Breese Walcott (1894-1965); Sidney Stevens Walcott (standing) (1892-1977); and Benjamin Stuart Walcott (1895-1917). The Walcotts are the family of fourth Smithsonian Secretary Charles D. Walcott, who is not pictured, but is most likely taking the image. It was their holiday tradition to decorate the tree on Christmas Eve at their house on 1743 N or W Street, Northwest Washington, D.C. There are Native American baskets and a jar in the background of the image.
