Summary

  • Appointed director in 2003, Cristián Samper, biologist, is in his office at the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH). In 2007 he was appointed Acting Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution while a search was underway to find a new secretary of the Smithsonian. He returned to the directorship of the NMNH in 2008.
  • Samper previously served as deputy director and staff scientist at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama.
