Ratibor Hartmann, a devoted naturalist, and Watson M. Perrygo, taxidermist at the United States National Museum, are seen forging the river Río Mamoní at Chepo, Panama. Ratibor Hartmann assisted Alexander Wetmore, sixth Secretary of the Smithsonian and ornithologist, on his scientific expeditions to the region.
