Secretary Ripley announces that the Smithsonian would "be the basis for a series of major television specials" at a dinner at the Hall of Gems, National Museum of Natural History. The series is to be broadcast on CBS as a presentation of the DuPont Calvacade of Television, to be produced by the David L. Wolper Organization. The first special "MONSTERS! Mystery or Myth" debuted at 8 p.m., 25 November 1974.
