Summary

To commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of James Smithson, founding donor of the Smithsonian Institution, a three day celebration was held September 16, 17, 18, 1965. The event included an academic procession. The procession, lined up on the Mall, included leaders, who are dressed in their academic robes, from the fields of the sciences and the humanities Several members of the procession are carrying the Smithsonian flag. The top of the Arts and Industries building can be seen in the background.
