Summary

Cristián Samper is appointed director of the National Museum of Natural History. Prior to coming to Washington, D.C., Samper was deputy director and staff scientist at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama from 2001 to 2003. He replaces Robert Fri who resigned 2001 over disagreements with Smithsonian Secretary Lawrence M. Small about the direction for science at the Institution.
