  • Biography: Doris Matsui, a Democrat from California, has been a member of the House of Representatives since 2005. She was elected to the seat formerly held by her husband, Robert Matsui, also a Smithsonian Regent, who died in January 2005. Matsui previously worked in the White House, serving as deputy special assistant to President Bill Clinton. She also has served as president and board chair of KVIE, Sacramento's public television station, and participated in numerous civic and philanthropic organizations, including the Crocker Art Museum, the Sacramento Children's Home, and the Junior League of Sacramento. In Congress, she is a member of the House Rules Committee, where she serves as vice chairwoman of the subcommittee on Rules and the Organization of the House. She is also a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee where she serves on the subcommittees on Aviation; Highways and Transit; and Water Resources and Environment.
