Summary

In August of 1978, STRI received a gift of a 63-foot steel hulled, twin-engined vessel from a donor in New Orleans. Tom Borges, STRI's Facilities Manager and a crew of STRI volunteers transported the vessel to Panama where it was overhauled for research use. It was hoped that the "R.V. Benjamin" would augment the capacity of marine scientists to conduct research in tropical America.
