Summary

Loyal B. Aldrich retires after 46 years with the Astrophysical Observatory. He was an assistant in the Observatory until 1930, when he was made assistant director under Charles Greeley Abbot. He took over in the duties of the director in 1945 when Abbot retired. Fred Lawrence Whipple is appointed his successor, effective July 1, 1955.
