  • Present: George M. Dallas, William W. Seaton, George Evans, Lewis Cass, Sidney Breese, Robert Dale Owen, William J. Hough, Henry W. Hilliard, Alexander Dallas Bache, Rufus Choate. Also Present: Joseph Henry. The members not present were Roger B. Taney, Joseph G. Totten, Gideon Hawley, Richard Rush, and William C. Preston.
  • Mr. Bache moved to reconsider the vote on the resolution regarding the publication of the plans for the building which was postponed for later consideration. The chancellor presented a letter from Peter Gorman stating prices for which he would provide stone for the building, a letter from John B. Glover offering to furnish marble for the price of its cost, a letter from John Haviland and other architects "remonstrating against the inequality of premiums awarded" to the architects and the sum appropriated for the plan publication, and a bill for the expenses of Isaiah Rogers in his architectural plan preparation. Mr. Bache presented a letter from C.F. Hagedorn, Consul of Bavaria, giving details of a library for sale in Munich. Mr. Evans then offered a resolution regarding the appointment of an assistant secretary which was postponed for later consideration. The board then adjourned to meet at 10:00 AM the following day.
