Summary

  • Present: George M. Dallas, William W. Seaton, George Evans, Lewis Cass, Sidney Breese, Robert Dale Owen, William J. Hough, Henry W. Hilliard, Richard Rush, Alexander Dallas Bache. Also Present: Joseph Henry. The members not present were Roger B. Taney, Joseph G. Totten, Rufus Choate, Gideon Hawley, and William C. Preston.
  • The chancellor presented a letter from the Secretary of the U.S. Senate "remonstrating against the use of materials prepared by State prison convicts" for the construction of the Institution's buildings. Mr. Arnot appeared before the board and finished his explanation of his architectural plans. Mr. Rogers, Renwick, and Archer appeared before the board and explained their architectural plans and drawings. The board adjourned to 10:00 AM the following day.
