Setting shows the Blue Room as it looked during the administration (1869-1877) of President Ulysses S. Grant. The exhibit is the dresses (from right to left) of Julia Dent Grant (1826-1902) ; Lucy Webb Hayes (1831-1889); Lucretia Rudolph Garfield (1832-1918 ); Mary Arthur McElroy (1841-1917), sister of President Arthur; Rose Elizabeth Cleveland (1846-1918), sister of President Cleveland; and Caroline Scott Harrison (1832-1892) and her daughter Mary Harrison McKee (1858-1930),representing the administration of President Benjamin Harrison. The lavish decorations of the room and the heavily embroidered and beaded dresses characterize this period of the bustle. The exhibit opened in the new National Museum of History and Technology, now the National Museum of American History, in 1964.
