  • "Graham" is letter-pressed on the matte of the photograph. According to the court case, 231 U.S. 474 (1913), Frank F. Graham vs. U.S. Government, the contractor assigned to transport the quarry stone was Frank F. Graham.
  • The 1907 and 1908 Smithsonian Annual Reports provide more detailed descriptions about the stone from the three quarries and the construction progress of the new building.
