Summary

First Issue of the Smithsonian Torch. The editorial board was comprised of Tom Clark, Jack Newman and Paul Oehser. The editorial committee was composed of Jewell Baker, Ernest Biebighauser, William Boyle, Margaret Brown, Elise Buckman, Tom Clark, William Crockett, Travis Fauntleroy, Daisy Fields, Vera Gabbert, Elise Kanerva, Robert Multhauf, Jessie Shaw, Clara Swallen, and Elise Swindlehurst. Members of the editorial committee submitted proposed names for the paper. The name SMITHSONIAN TORCH, submitted by Tom Clark, received the most votes. The Credit Union Letter, which debuted on 2 March 1936, was merged into this new newsletter.
