Summary

On January 12, 1965, the National Armed Forces Museum Advisory Board recommends to the Board of Regents that a National Armed Forces Museum be created by the Smithsonian Institution. Secretary Ripley announces that, on January 28, 1965, the Board of Regents approved recommendations for the establishment of the Museum, to be situated on a 340-acre tract bordering the Potomac River in nearby Fort Washington, Maryland.
