Summary

The Museum of Natural History opens exhibition of the Dead Sea Scrolls from Jordan in the Foyer Gallery of the Natural History Building. The exhibit, sponsored by the Government of Jordan, ran from 27 February to 21 March, and drew approximately 209,643 visitors. The scrolls then moved to the University of Pennsylvania Museum, Philadelphia, where they were displayed from 3 to 25 April as part of a Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service exhibit. Negotiations for the loan of the specimens and accompanying photos had been in progress since 1960 with the Government of Jordan.
