Alexander Wetmore, ornithologist and sixth Secretary of the Smithsonian, sits in a canoe in a river at the foot of the trail to La Playita Station, Jaque, Darien. Wetmore conducted extensive field work in Panama for his four volume work, The Birds of Panama.
