  • Ryan died November 18, 1978, in an ambush at the airstrip of Port Kaituma, Guyana, while on a visit to the Peoples Temple cult site at Jonestown, Guyana. A ritual mass suicide by 941 cult members led by Rev. Jim Jones then followed.
