  • Biography: Walter E. Massey of Georgia was the ninth president of Morehouse College in Atlanta. He previously served as provost and senior vice president of academic affairs (the number two position) at the University of California; director of the National Science Foundation; president and chairman of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (12 years); vice president of the American Physical Society; vice president for research at the University of Chicago; director of the Argonne National Laboratory; and dean of the College and professor of physics at Brown University. A noted physicist and author, his research has focused on the study of quantum liquids and solids.
