  • Biography: Patrick J. Leahy, a Democrat from Vermont, has served since 1975 in the Senate, where his legislative leadership has focused on international humanitarian needs, the protection of privacy rights and freedom of speech, and the preservation of wildlife refuges and farmland. He is a member of the Senate National Guard Caucus and the cofounder and co-chair of the Congressional Internet Caucus. He is a member of the Appropriations Committee, where he is Chairman of the State and Foreign Operations Subcommittee and a members of the subcommittees on Interior; Homeland Security; Commerce, Justice, and Science; Defense; and Transportation and HUD. He is Chairman of the Committee on the Judiciary, where he serves as a member of its subcommittees on Antitrust, Competition Policy, and Consumer Rights; Corrections and Rehabilitation; and Intellectual Property. In addition, he is a member of the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, where he is a member of the Research, Nutrition, and General Legislation Subcommittee, as well as a member of the Forestry, Conservation, and Rural Revitalization Subcommittee and the Production and Price Competitiveness Subcommittee.
