Summary

Edward P. Henderson (1898-1992) (seated 2nd from right), curator of mineral sciences in the National Museum of Natural History, travelled to Japan several times to appraise gems confiscated by the Japanese government during World War II. Here he sits with a group of Japanese men who inspected diamonds. Apparatus for studying the gems can be seen on the table.
