Summary

Dr. Matthias Comerford, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory metallurgist, is shown here examining the microstructures of meteoritic material. This instrument takes photographs of tiny slices of meteorites which have been polished and treated to reveal their internal structures. Microstructure studies give some indications as to how and under what conditions the material was originally formed.
