S. Dillon Ripley (1913-2001) in Sorong, New Guinea on the Denison-Crockett South Pacific Expedition in 1938, probably May. Ornithologist Ripley joined the expedition to collect birds. The group is pictured in front of a house. Seated, left to right: Charis Denison Crockett; Constance Baillie Rose Ripley (S. Dillon's mother who was visiting); "Didie" Smith Lowndes (Mrs. Lloyd Lowndes); Lodora van der Goot (Mrs. S. van der Goot), and her three sons. Standing at rear, left to right: S. Dillon Ripley; Harry Kern; and Shirk van der Goot.
