In Washington, D.C., in the area now known as Rock Creek Park, wooded lands purchased to be the future home of the National Zoological Park. Visible on lower left is a road and on upper right is Holt House, which was purchased for $40,000 by the Zoo Commission in 1889. The Holt House, renovated to make it "suitable for occupancy", was used for the Zoo's Administration Offices until 1977.
