View of the construction of the northwest quadrant of the United States National Museum, now known as the Arts and Industries Building. The walls of the building are complete and the roof is being worked on. This view is from the South Tower of the Smithsonian Building, looking east towards the Capitol. The ceremonial ground breaking for the new museum was on April 17, 1879. The United States Capitol Building is visible in the background. Corner of the Smithsonian Institution Building can be seen on left.
