Summary

Orville Wright, director of the Dayton Wright Airplane Company, at left, and Howard Rinehart, chief test pilot, at right, in front of the De Havilland 4 airplane in the South Field on May 14-18 (no year is given in caption). The Wright Brothers wrote to Smithsonian Secretary Samuel P. Langley for advice on inventing a flying machine early in their work. They later donated some of their historic aircraft to the Institution.
