Laborers can be seen preparing for a new floor of marble and terrazzo in the South East Range of the United States National Museum, now the Arts and Industries Building. They are using a tool called a "galera." The work was done by the National Mosaic Company, owned by John Zanier. Above them are two skeletons hanging from the ceiling, an extinct arctic sea-cow and a whale. On the wall behind them is a display of saws from saw-fish.
