Construction of the galleries on the second floor of the United States National Museum, now the Arts and Industries Building, to provide additional exhibit space began in 1897. This picture is of the west range and court, and shows workers using a pulley to lift construction material up to the gallery. Workers are also mixing construction materials on the floor.
