This accession consists of Michael J. Neufeld's papers documenting his research, publications, and professional activities. Neufeld held several fellowships with the Smithsonian Institution from 1988 through 1990. In 1990, he was hired as a curator by the National Air and Space Museum, first in the Department of Aeronautics, which became the Aeronautics Division in 1997, and then in the Space History Division in 1999 (later the Space History Department). Neufeld, a specialist in rocketry and Wernher von Braun in particular, retired from the Institution in April 2023. Materials include correspondence; notes; articles and book reviews; news releases; proposals; lecture scripts; conference, symposia, and workshop information; agreements; meetings; financial summaries; and clippings. Some materials are in electronic format.
