Summary:

This accession consists of records that document the tenure of Barbara Faust, Director, 2014-2019. Faust began her career at the Smithsonian Institution as manager of the Greenhouse Nursery Branch, from 1986-2004; and then became Associate Director from 2004-2013. As Director, Faust served as the technical authority on all matters related to horticultural programs and activities and landscape architecture for the Smithsonian. She was responsible for the overall operation of the Smithsonian Gardens and the implementation of policies and the creation of programs that fulfill the mission of the Smithsonian. Some records come from when Gardens was known as the Horticulture Services Division and from when it was part of the Office of Facilities Management and Reliability. Of note in the collection are the materials related to the name change of Smithsonian Gardens, strategic planning materials, and support documentation for the accreditation of Smithsonian Gardens by the American Alliance of Museums. Materials include correspondence, memoranda, reports, a presentation, strategic planning records, a memorandum of understanding, a newsletter, and other related materials.
