This accession consists of web and social media content related to the annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival held June 25-27, 2021. The Festival was virtual due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. The Smithsonian Folklife Festival website was crawled on June 30, 2021. It provides information about the 2021 festival and related multimedia content as well as details and content related to previous festivals. The website also includes a blog that was crawled separately on July 6, 2021. The blog launched in 2008 but some content from earlier festivals has been backdated and uploaded into the blog. The "Smithsonian Folklife Festival Marketplace" website was crawled on June 28, 2021. The Marketplace connects artisans from around the world with diverse customers. While heavily promoted during the Festival, the website is available for shopping year-round. Due to technical issues, the online product catalog may be incomplete in this accession. The Twitter search results for the hashtag "#2021Folklife" were crawled on April 21, 2021, and again on June 29, 2021. The hashtag was used by the Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage to promote the Festival. Twitter is a microblogging platform and its posts are known as "tweets." In addition, tweets using this hashtag between April 13 and July 7, 2021, were exported in two formats.The Center for Foklife and Cultural Heritage YouTube channel was crawled in two parts - the homepage and the videos page - on June 28, 2021. YouTube is a video sharing service. The YouTube channel hosts recordings of many of the virtual Festival programs as well as related video content. Due to technical issues, some video content may be missing from this accession. Materials are in digital format.
