Finding Aids to Official Records of the Smithsonian Institution Archives
Accession 23-067
National Museum of American History. Division of Work and Industry
Exhibition Records, 2020-2023
Descriptive Entry
This accession consists of comment cards that document the exhibit, Girlhood (It's complicated), which was supported in part by the Smithsonian Institution's American Women's History Initiative and curated by Kathleen Franz. The exhibit presented unexpected stories of girlhood, engaging visitors with conversations about women's history.
As part of the exhibit, comment cards or "TalkBack cards" were collected from visitors that consisted of a variety of questions related to the six sections of the exhibit: News and Politics (Girls on the front lines of change), Education (Being Schooled), Work, (Hey, Where's My Girlhood?), Wellness (body talk), and Fashion (remix). The questions were: "What do politicians need to know about girls today?;" "What did you learn in school about how to be a girl?;" "Did you or anyone in your family work as a child?;" "Has someone else ever made a decision that affected your body?;" "What do you tell the world through your clothes?;" and "Draw your authentic self." Samples of the "TalkBack cards" were collected on different days throughout the time the exhibit was up at the museum.
