  • The National Museum of African American History and Culture Library Research Center supports both staff at the National Museum of African American History and Culture and independent researchers. Its devoted to collecting and providing access to resources that support scholarship in African American history, culture, and the African Diaspora. The library research center also supports research in genealogy and family history.
  • The library was part of Smithsonian Libraries at the time of its creation. In 2020, after the merger of Smithsonian Institution Libraries and Smithsonian Institution Archives, it became part of Smithsonian Libraries and Archives.
  • The library opened in 2015 as part of the opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Shauna Collier served as its first librarian (2015- ).
