Summary

This accession consists of the email account of E. Carmen Ramos, acting chief curator and curator of Latinx art (2010-2021). Ramos holds a PhD and MA in art history from the University of Chicago and a BA in art history and psychology from New York University. At the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Ramos was responsible for expanding the museum's collection of Latinx art, working towards challenging the exclusion of Latinx art from United States art history and capturing the broad aesthetic and regional range of the field. Her research interests include modern and contemporary Latinx, Latin American and African American art. Major exhibitions she organized include "¡Printing the Revolution! The Rise and Impact of Chicano Graphics, 1965 to Now;" "Tamayo: The New York Years;" and "Our America: The Latino Presence in American Art." Ramos' email account consists of approximately 181,865 messages and covers the time period of October 2010 to June 2021. The correspondence documents Ramos' work on research, exhibitions, collections acquisitions, public programs, and other related areas. Materials are in electronic format.
