Finding Aids to Official Records of the Smithsonian Institution Archives
Accession 22-124
Smithsonian American Art Museum. Curatorial Office
Exhibition Records, 2012-2016
Descriptive Entry
This accession consists of records created and maintained by E. Carmen Ramos, acting chief curator and curator of Latinx art (2010-2021), which document her work on the exhibits. Primarily documented is her work on the exhibit, "Our America: The Latino Presence in American Art". This exhibit presented the rich and varied contributions of Latino artists in the United States since the mid-twentieth century, when the concept of a collective Latino identity began to emerge. Works for the exhibition were drawn entirely from the museum's collections and they explored how Latino artists shaped the artistic movements of their day and recalibrated key themes in American art and culture. Other exhibits documented an exhibit of Latino art at the White House and the exhibit, "Tamayo: The New York Years." The records are in English and Spanish. Materials include correspondence, memoranda, checklists, proposals, meeting notes, floor plans, drawings, brochures, press releases, clippings, and other related documents.
