Summary: | This accession consists of the records of Jane Milosch, primarily documenting her activities as director of the Smithsonian Provenance Research Initiative (SPRI) in the Office of the Under Secretary for Museums, Education, and Research/Provost. Milosch oversaw World War II-era provenance research on works of art; facilitated provenance research at Smithsonian museums and archives to clarify ownership history and unlawful appropriations; and participated in Germany's International Schwabing Art Trove Task Force Advisory Group, as well as the German/American Provenance Research Exchange Program. Some earlier records document Milosch's activities as Senior Program Officer for Art (2008-2009), in which she directed pan-Institutional art programs in the Office of the Under Secretary for History, Art, and Culture; and, prior to 2008, when she was curator-in-charge of the Renwick Gallery. Materials include correspondence, memoranda, and notes; meeting agendas; budget summaries; SPRI website planning and development information; contracts and agreements; proposals; reports; press releases; information regarding conferences, symposia, workshops, committees, strategic planning, grants, fundraising, and exhibition planning; guidelines; newsletters; newspaper clippings; brochures; and posters. This accession consists of the records of Jane Milosch, primarily documenting her activities as director of the Smithsonian Provenance Research Initiative (SPRI) in the Office of the Under Secretary for Museums, Education, and Research/Provost. Milosch oversaw World War II-era provenance research on works of art; facilitated provenance research at Smithsonian museums and archives to clarify ownership history and unlawful appropriations; and participated in Germany's International Schwabing Art Trove Task Force Advisory Group, as well as the German/American Provenance Research Exchange Program.
