This accession consists of audio and visual recordings, as well as their supporting documentation, of Lemelson Center interviews, symposia, exhibits, and events. Programs, symposia, and the exhibit documented within this collection include "Innovative Lives," "Patents on Life: Diamond v. Chakrabarty at 40," "New Perspectives Symposium: Black Inventors and Innovators," "New Perspectives Symposium: Immigrant Inventors," and Inventive Minds.
"Innovative Lives" is a public program series that brings audiences of all ages and backgrounds face-to-face with diverse inventors and innovation leaders to engage in a public conversation about their pioneering work and careers. Kare; Andy Hildebrand; Kareem Abdul-Jabbar; James E. The Lemelson's symposia serve as forums for issues related to invention and innovation. Some of the topics covered in the symposia documented in this collection are video games; intellectual property; black inventors and innovators; and immigrant inventors. Inventive Minds is a gallery within the Lemelson Hall of Invention and Innovation which introduces visitors to the mission and work of the Lemelson Center, particularly their efforts to document invention. The exhibit features brief video interviews, complemented by archival materials and artifacts, which puts the focus on the inventors and their processes, telling their stories in their own words. People featured include Ralph H. Baer; Patricia Bath; Sunil Cherian; Theresa Dankovich; Ashok Gadgil; Subhendu Guha; Jerry Lemelson; Paul B. MacCready; Marion Donovan; Van Phillips; A. Prieto; David Stone; and Bryan Willson.
Materials include participant releases, audio and video recordings, flyers, and program brochures. Materials are in electronic format.
