  • The Office of the Under Secretary for Education was created in 2019. The Under Secretary is responsible for defining the Smithsonian's educational priorities and oversees it's collective initiatives, communication strategies and funding for programs that benefit learners of all ages.
  • Ruki Neuhold-Ravikumar was appointed Acting Under Secretary for Education in November 2019. In May 2021 Neuhold-Ravikumar stepped down as Under Secretary to serve as the Interim Director of the Cooper Hewitt, Smtihsonian Design Museum. In June 2021, Monique M. Chism began her tenure as Under Secretary, having previously being vice president for education policy and strategic initiatives at the American Institutes for Research.
