  • The Office of the Deputy Head Diversity Officer was created in 2021 to be part of the Smithsonian's leadership team committed to foster a diverse, equitable, accessible, and inclusive organization in which all have an opportunity to thrive. The Officer serves as the Smithsonian's central leader on diversity, equity, accessibility and inclusion (DEAI) issues. The Officer works to conceptualize and execute an institutional DEAI strategy. This strategy will consist of a set of specific goals, initiatives, and metrics to measure success, and will unify, coordinate, or integrate existing programs across the Smithsonian's organizational units. In developing and implementing the strategy, the Officer will work collaboratively with senior leaders from across the Institution, as well as key partners, such as the Office of Equal Employment and Supplier Diversity, the Office of Human Resources, and other partners.
  • Elizabeth Ziebarth served as Interim Deputy Head Diversity Officer, 2021 and was appointed as Deputy Head Diversity Officer in 2022- .
